La Residence Phou Vao is œhands down the most luxurious lodging in Luang Prabang according to Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. Originally built by the French in the 1950s, in 2001 it was thoughtfully renovated by a French architect, the 34 rooms and 2 suites are an aesthetic blend of rosewood, cotton and silk, and have balconies with inspiring views of the mountains, Phou Si Temple and the town.
The 5 building complex is a mix of Lao detailing and French colonial-style architecture. The edge-less swimming pool is a special feature.
